Link party #2: co-hosted with Feather's Flights

My second link party is a special one: it's co-hosted together with Heather for Feather's Flights! I got to know her blog accidentally. That's how it goes when your surfing, surfing and surfing from one blog to the other. Today we'll be co-hosting a link party for the first time!

The easiest way to introduce Heather Feather is just showing you this image.

I think Heather's blog is a pearl and I was so honoured when she featured my free Charles' pants pattern. I flew (as she says) and I really did make me happy! Thanks for having this nice link up parties and also for giving me the chance to co-host today.

The idea is simple: just share your nicest sewing project using the link tool underneath. When the collection is closed, we'll feature the most beautiful projects on our blogs! Here are the rules for this link party:

One pattern, two styles!

On this typical Belgian rainy day, why not share my most colourful dress with you?

I got to know this Maggie Mae dress pattern by Shwin & Shwin through Mary Jo's blog: all this for them! When I saw her version of this dress I was really impressed. What a cute little girl with such a adorable little dress. 'I also want to make this pattern' was my very first reaction and when I started thinking about fabric combinations, I thought: it would be nice to show two totally different results made with one pattern'. So 'one pattern, two styles' is a new concept presented here! Also check out 'All This For Them' because I got the opportunity to guest post at her blog today! Thanks a lot. :)

Later this week Mary Jo will also present her version of my Charles' pants on my blog. I'm really curious to see what she's about to create at this moment. Make sure to check it later this week! I'll be happy to show Belgium her work!

When my version of the dress was finished, I was really happy with the result. (Sorry to say so…) I love the pattern sooooo much. It's en easy project with a stunning result. The instructions are very clear so any sewist should be able to make this beauty!

I hope you are convinced enough to just buy the pattern? I surely recommend this one if your looking for a new project!

Before I forget to mention: I bought this two lovely fabrics at Veritas (from Free Spirit). The buttons are from Strass

Now let's go over to May Jo's creation: she made the dress for the Project Run&Play. A version that can be a playing dress but will be worn at parties as well...

Congratulations to her for this lovely dress. I'm not the only one that loves her version: Mary Jo was featured at Sugar Bee Crafts & Ginger Snap Crafts! Well done...

Another happy girl in the world! Lovely!

Winners give away!

This morning I turned my new coin purse up side down to select the winners of my give away and this is the amount of money I had left at the end of the week...

The exact amount left you can count yourself below:
5,25 euro!

The two lucky winners are:

I'll send the grey one to Alli and the blue one is for Monkeysmama. I'll contact you to get your addresses...

Now let's ask if I can buy me something sweet at Lisa's brand new shop with this money!? 'One ice cream please!'

Gifts!

Always nice to give presents, especially when you've made them yourself!
I've created two hand made gifts this week. One for a dear friend, hoping to give birth soon... The other one, for my aunt celebrating her 65th birthday and her retirement! I assume it's not difficult to match the picture to the right person...

The jumpsuit was made with the same pattern as Pieke Wieke used for her version. I liked her creation sooo much! Mine is maybe not as nice, but I used two old t-shirts: for this small sizes it's easy to up-cycle some old garments. And they grow so fast at this age...

For the scarf, I used a vintage style fabric bought at Moens in Antwerp. I added a Clematis flower to take the picture. A pity I can't let the flower stay with the scarf forever...

Sew along Charles' pants

Because the free pattern for my Charles' pants seems to be popular (1 reached 100 requests in a week), I decided to start a sew along for this pair of sailor pants. This way we'll be making the Charles' pants step by step together in 4 weeks time.

Today I'll give you an idea on how the schedule for the sew along looks like. I'll post a new session every Friday because I assume that sewing during the weekend is the easiest for everyone?

Request your pattern

If you don't have the pattern yet, just can do it here. You'll receive the pattern within one hour.

Choosing the right size

Do you have the pattern? Now we'll have to choose the right size first. Especially the waist is important.

18 months: 49cm
2 yo:         51cm
3yo:          52cm
4yo:          54cm
5yo           56cm
6yo:          58cm

The length can be adjusted because we have this relatively wide hem bands...
If you have doubts about the size, just choose the biggest one. We'll ad an adjustable button elastic at the back.

Preparing the pattern pieces

Before you cut the pattern pieces make sure that you add some seam allowances: 1 choose 1cm for seams made with my regular sewing machine, 7mm for seams made with the serger. I already do this on the A4 sheets because then you don't need extra paper to be waisted! You don't need to add more than 1cm of seam allowances at the bottom of the hem bands...

Then cut all this pieces of paper and assemble the full pattern.

Shopping

Take the pattern pieces with you to the fabric store or have a close look at the fabrics in your cupboard!

I like my versions of the Charles' pants with jeans the most (but off course that's personally). For the jeans you can use an old pair of jeans that you don't wear anymore. I'm sure that you have one left that's still in a good condition? A nice way to do some up-cycling!

Then find some nice coordinating cotton fabric. Here are some fabrics / brands I really like a lot: Lotta Jansdotter, Moda Fabrics, Cloud9, Dear Stella, Petit Pan Free Spirit,...

Blossom festival Cloud9

Don't forget your interfacing: otherwise the difference in thickness will be too big. You'll need 4 buttons for closing the pants, 2 flat ones for the elastic waist band and 2 snap buttons. If you like you can add some piping at the front, but you don't need to. It's up to you! And then also a piece of button elastic and some yarn for both fabrics.
  • jeans or other fabric of your choice
  • coordinating cotton fabric
  • interfacing
  • 4 buttons (outside, 2 buttons for the elastic, 2 snap buttons)
  • piping (if you like to add some)
  • elastic band
  • 2 x yarn
Prewashing

Often this step is skipped, but it's so important to wash you fabrics to avoid shrinkage after wards. Because we do everything step-by-step: don't skip this one especially when you plan to work with cotton. You can just wash your fabric like you would do with the finished garment.

So that's it for today! Next session: next Friday!

If your following this sew along session, just leave a small message. It's always nice to know if some one is sewing along...

At the end of our session, make sure to send me some pictures because the nicest results will be featured!

My first series: Romper Week

A couple of days ago I got a request from RaeAnna (Sewing Mama RaeAnna) to join her in her first series! What do you think!? What an offer I can't refuse. My small blog in this impressive list of bigger ones... I think she doesn't know how happy she made me!

Here is the nice line up. Surely have a look at the other participators!

Sewing Mama RaeAnna | Naptime Crafters | SewVery | Compagnie M. | Designs by Sessa

I have no idea yet what type of romper I would like to sew or maybe even design. But the series will be hosted from 17 - 21 June. So let's take our time and find some inspiration first. I'll make a special Pinterest board...

Rae Anna talks about this famous John John Romper from Growing Home.
It a very nice and detailed tutorial! My very first Pin on the new board..

Free pattern: Ruffle me Tee

I'm really a big fan of the ruffled back tee I made a while ago. Every time I see the kids wearing this tee, it makes me happy. So I though: let's go for a fourth free pattern! No sooner said than done: today I launch it in sizes 2 till 6yo. If you like to receive this free pattern: click here.

Nore was my model again tonight! She really seems to enjoy it! I think the pictures turned out as beautiful as the tee...

Nore even becomes my assistant when we're choosing the outfit: she choose this skirt herself (from Limon by Van Hassels: a belgian kids clotting brand).

As you can see: Nore really want to become a big star one day. :)

At a certain moment my home made crochet ice cream had to join her: for that extra summer feeling!
(It's raining very hard outside...)

I'm getting tired mommy!

Sleep tight princess!
